Day 1 – 1 November

√ flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, Tanzania
√ transfer Kilimanjaro - Arusha (airport - lodge)
√ overnight stay – Arumeru River Lodge, Arusha

Our drivers will pick you up at the airport to take you to the place where you are going to spend your first night in Tanzania. You’ll be probably very tired after the long flight, but before you go to bed you can enjoy dinner on the veranda of the lodges restaurant.
Arumeru River Lodge has spacious garden rooms that are situated in a tropical park that is famous for its botanical specimens. From your private terrace you can watch vervet monkeys, different kinds of birds and small Dik Dik antelopes roaming freely between the garden chalets.  There’s a swimming pool with sunbeds and free Wi-Fi. If the weather permits, you can see the famous Mount Kilimanjaro.


Day 2 – 2 November

We will start this day with the first yoga session in the quiet garden of the lodge. Your body will thank you for the stretching, to release the tension of the long journey you made the day before. You will have the morning to relax and adept to your surroundings.  This is the first day of disconnecting from the stressful modern western life and getting a taste of Africa. The afternoon can be spent near the swimming pool or having a siesta. Just enjoy the nice temperature and the lovely atmosphere and get acquainted with the other members of the group. Before the night falls we will have another yoga class.


Day 3 – 3 November

√ 7 am yoga - breakfast - transfer - lunch – relax time – 5 pm yoga – dinner

After the morning yoga class and breakfast, the guide will pick you up around 9.30am. In a 4x4 safari vehicle we’ll be heading south from Arusha towards Tarangire. The journey will give you a first impression of Tanzania, it’s people and their way of life. On the way you will pass through many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantations. In the early afternoon we will arrive at Tarangire Simba Lodge.  A late lunch will be served and after that it’s time to relax. An hour before sunset you can attend the evening yoga session in the open air.


Day 4 – 4 November

Today you have to get up really early for your first game drive. Don’t worry. Even if you are not a real morning person, you will not regret getting up early on safari. It’s the best time for game viewing.
Deriving its name from the Tarangire River which winds its way through the park, Tarangire National Park offers a unique mixture of grasslands, flood plains and a scenic river, as well as thousands of ancient baobab trees.  The park is famous for its high density of elephants. Visitors to the park in the June to November dry season can expect to see large herds of zebra, wildebeest and cape buffalo. Other common resident animals include giraffe, eland, vervet monkey and olive baboon. Predators in Tarangire include lion, leopard, cheetah and caracal.
After getting back to the lodge from the full day game drive with packed lunch, the evening yoga session before dinner will be a real treat.


Day 5 – 5 November

In order to take full advantage of all the wonders Tanzanian nature has to offer, we will leave immediately after getting up. We will bring a packed breakfast in the car, so we can find a nice scenery in the wilderness and enjoy breakfast there. As soon as we reach a spot where you can get out of the car safely, we will do the morning yoga session in the middle of all the beautiful wildlife. We continue the game drive in Tarangire National Park. After arriving at the lodge, there will be a late lunch. Time to relax a bit before the evening yoga class, while the sun sets over the African bush.


Day 6 – 6 November

√ transfer Tarangire National Park – Lake Manyara
√ cultural walk in Karatu or Mto Wambu
√ overnight stay: Rift Valley Lodge

After a refreshing morning yoga session and a leisurely breakfast at Tarangire Simba Lodge, the journey goes to Karatu. In Karatu village or the village of Mto Wambu a local guide takes you for a cultural walk. You can learn something about the local tribes and their traditions. After that we go to Rift Valley Lodge near lake Manyara, where you will enjoy lunch. After you’ve made yourself comfortable in your room and relaxed a little bit, it’s time for the evening yoga with a stunning view on the surroundings. After enjoying a lovely dinner, you can watch the amazing night sky next to a campfire. Finally it’s off to sleep beneath your mosquito net, in anticipation of waking to a bright new dawn and all the sights, sounds, smells and sensations you can look forward to.

 

Day 7 – 7 November

Today you have an early rise again for a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. This park is famous for its tree climbing lions, hippos and baboons. The lake and its environs is also home to herbivores such as impalas, elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes.
The heat of the day, which is roughly between 11 am and 3 pm, is not the best time for game viewing. During the hot months, the animals will be lying low and seeking shade to shelter from the burning sun. Having said that, no two days or two game drives are ever the same.  Sometimes the most spectacular sightings can be seen midday... In the late afternoon, animals are once again on the move. Predators are out looking for their supper. Anything can happen and it often does…
After the game drive you return to your tented camp for the evening yoga class and dinner. If you’re not completely worn out by then, you can relax near a campfire. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking African night sky.


Day 8 – 8 November

√ 8.30 am yoga - breakfast - nature walk/relax time - lunch – cultural walk/relax time – 5 pm yoga – dinner

Time to process all the experiences you had so far! We start this relaxing day with an extended yoga session in the morning. After breakfast you will have time to relax and read a book, look up information about the wildlife you have seen, enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool, or simply listen to the alternating silence and sounds of the bush.
Another option for spending the morning and afternoon is to take a guided walking safari in this rural area and learn about the Masai culture. You can watch members of this tribe guarding their grazing cattle.  While the sun sets over the Tanzanian landscape, our yoga teacher will give you the second yoga class of the day.


Day 9 – 9 November

After yoga and breakfast we depart from Rift Valley Lodge with a picnic lunch and we travel around the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. En route we are passing Olduvai Gorge. This place is one of the most important pale anthropological sites in the world; it has proven invaluable in furthering understanding of early human evolution. Once we enter Serengeti National Park, the game drive starts immediately. Serengeti is one of the most famous National Parks in the world. It’s a unique park with varied landscapes and ecosystems and famous for the migration of thousands of wildebeests and zebras. You’ll be arriving at Serengeti Simba Lodge in time for the evening yoga session.


Day 10 – 10 November/ Day 11 – 11 November/ Day 12 – 12 November

√ full day game drives in Serengeti with a picnic lunch
√ Overnight stay: Serengeti Simba Lodge

These three days you have to get up very early for the game drives in Serengeti National Park. You want to leave this early because the animals follow the natural movements of the sun. You might be lucky enough to see some of the nocturnal animals returning from their night’s search for food, or lions covered in blood from a kill looking for a comfortable place to rest for the day. Most of the animals are more active in the early mornings, before the day heats up.  Because we want to spend as much time as we can in the bush, a full day game drive with packed lunch is our best option. Usually we will be back in the middle of the afternoon, which gives you time to relax a bit in the pool or on your veranda. The yoga session before dinner is much needed, because you spent a lot of time in the car. Probably your mind and soul are already rested and de-stressed by now, but your body will thank you for the extra attention you will give it during yoga.


Day 13 – 13 November

√ overnight stay: Karatu Simba Lodge

On this day we’ll be slowly heading to Karatu. On the way you can stop at small shops along the road, to buy some presents to bring home. You’ll be arriving in time at Karatu Simba Lodge to take a refreshing dive in the pool before yoga and dinner.  After that you’ll be ready for a good night’s sleep.


Day 14 – 14 November

√ 5.30 am breakfast - transfer to Ngorongoro - crater - packed lunch - 5.30 pm yoga – dinner

√ overnight stay: Karatu Simba Lodge

A highlight awaits you this morning as you depart early to explore what is commonly referred to as the world’s largest natural wildlife zoo. After breakfast, you descend by car through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is also one of the world’s seven natural wonders. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct habitats, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. It’s an awesome wildlife experience. A picnic lunch is provided for the full day crater tour experience. You will return to the lodge in the late afternoon for yoga, dinner and overnight.


Day 15 – 15 November

√ 8.30 am yoga - breakfast – relax time - lunch - transfer to Kilimanjaro airport
√ Transfer Karatu - Kilimanjaro Airport

Sadly this will be the last day of your incredible safari. Of course we will start the day again with an extended yoga class. Depending on the departure time of your flight, you can choose after breakfast to unwind next to the pool or take a walk in the area. You will be picked up at the lodge in time and brought to Kilimanjaro airport.

Qualified teachers

The practice of yoga will offer you the perfect opportunity to connect with your inner peace, clear your mind and at the same time stretch your body. Although staying in a 4-wheel drive car on dirt roads for hours is called "getting a free African massage", doing yoga at dawn and sunset is a real treat for your body.

Our teachers are Monique from The Netherlands and Inez from Spain. Depending on the group, classes will be given in English, Dutch or Spanish. Both teachers are fully qualified and have extensive experience in teaching.
